Hormones work by carrying messages from glands to cells in order to maintain chemical levels in the bloodstream that achieve homeostasis. As members of the endocrine system, glands manufacture hormones, and hormones are essential for both the male and female body to function properly.

Hormones affect the way that you look and feel, and although men and women have many different hormones, there are certain hormones which are shared, such as testosterone.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group, and it is secreted in the testes of men and the ovaries of women. In both males and females, it plays key roles in health and well being. If your testosterone levels are either too high or too low you may notice dramatic effects in the way you look and feel.

Testosterone effects can be classified as virilizing and anabolic effects, although the distinction is somewhat artificial because many of the effects can be considered both. Many people think that only men have testosterone but this is not true at all.

There are actually quite a few different hormones in the female body, but one of the most prominent and important is the female estrogen. Heard of female hot flashes? Well female estrogen is primarily what is responsible for these, but there is much more important information that you should be aware of when it comes to female estrogen.

What it is

Female estrogen is a very important hormone in the female body, and it has very significant effects on the body. Estrogen is a group of hormones that play an important role in the normal sexual and reproductive development in women. They are also known as sex hormones.

What it Does

Estrogen regulates the menstrual cycle in a woman, and as well it affects the reproductive tract, urinary tract, heart and blood vessels, bones, breasts, skin, hair, mucous membranes, pelvic muscles, and the brain.

Female estrogen is therefore essential in the female body, but many women are lacking and their estrogen levels are lower than they should be. There is something known as hormone replacement therapy which is a great idea and which you will want to speak to your doctor about if you are interested in it.

If you are lacking in estrogen and you start on the hormone replacement therapy you will notice an improvement in the way that you feel almost immediately, and notice that everything else seems to be going better.
